Socrates famously declared at his trial that 'the unexamined life is not worth living. ' For him, truth was the only thing that mattered, and the only way to find it was through 'Elenchus'—the Socratic Method of persistent questioning. He believed that truth is hidden beneath layers of social convention, ego, and false assumptions. He teaches that we must be willing to dismantle our own beliefs to find the bedrock of reality, regardless of the discomfort it causes.
"There is only one good, knowledge, and one evil, ignorance."
"I know that I am intelligent, because I know that I know nothing."
"He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have."

"The way to gain a good reputation is to endeavor to be what you desire to appear."
"The hottest love has the coldest end."
"The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing."
"One who is injured ought not to return the injury, for on no account can it be right to do an injustice."
