Kahneman identified a conflict between the 'Experiencing Self' (who lives in the moment) and the 'Remembering Self' (who keeps the score). He found that we make decisions based on memories, not experiences. A vacation is judged by its highlights and its ending, not its duration. He teaches that to be happy, we must satisfy both selves—enjoying the moment while creating memories that we will cherish.
